Local to Global Women Changemakers

August 3, 2018 by Flourish Together Team

Local to Global Change Makers Event

The Local to Global Women Changemakers event hosted by Flourish Together CIC and the Zebra Partnership, took place at the beautiful Radisson Blu Edwardian hotel. There was no place more fitting than the hotel which was formally home to the first suffragette meeting, held by Manchester’s very own Emmeline Pankhurst.

The event was a ‘Unique and first of its kind event’ to celebrate and showcase diverse women changemakers that have impacted communities through positive social change across Greater Manchester and beyond.

The event brought together over 65 Women Changemakers to showcase, connect and collaborate. There were 30 Women Changemakers who shared their stories and contributed on panels across a multi -site event to promote a range of social ventures across the city. The event took place throughout the whole day and evening on 13th July 2018, combining speakers discussions and peer learning opportunities, including contributions from Lucy Danger -Emerge, Rose Marley – Sharp Futures, Haleh Moravej METMunch, Eve Holt – DivaManc, Katie Finney – Amity HCD, plus Nickala Torkington and Jo McGrath the Co-founders and Directors of Flourish Together CIC. During the afternoon, the event was split across 3 groups to go on thematic learning journeys across multiple women led social enterprise sites. This enabled people to build deeper connections, have thematic discussions and hear from experts by experience. Learning journey themes were: Health & Wellbeing, Food & Sustainability and Creative & Digital as these are 3 key areas where momentum is already building across impact being created by Women Changemakers linked to the Flourish network.

Women Change makers

The day ended with all the groups meeting at the Old Abbey Taphouse where delegates and contributors could catch up on what they missed, reflect on learnings from the day and deepen connections with trusted contacts to consider routes for future collaboration. Congratulations to everyone involved in such an inspirational day. Flourish are excited to support our next women social entrepreneurs and create a supportive environment to support them to achieve their goals.
