This month we’re celebrating Asma Begum a changemaker from our Time to Grow programme.
Asma is a British Bangladeshi single mum living and is a survivor of domestic abuse, having fled an abusive marriage into a women’s refuge with her young son.
Determined to make a difference, she founded a non-profit Soul Sisters: Empowering People, where she uses her own experiences to inspire and motivate other women to turn their lives around from the negative impact on health, well-being and happiness to positively overcome traumas of domestic abuse.
Since being recognised as a charity in May 2021, Asma and Soul sisters have touched over 300 Lives, completed 15 community projects and have had over 33 Volunteers support projects and initiatives. With plans to expand outreach, provide free access to services and establish a permanent office base – Asma shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
In addition to her successful charitable ventures, Asma has been a motivational speaker at events with Truth to Power cafe, produced by London Arts project and for Let’s Talk charity in Rochdale. And makes regular appearances on radio and podcasts.
This year Asma was selected for our partnership programme We Lead For Legacy funded by the GMCA to pioneer racially minoritised leaders to access opportunities to build skills and influence change to get ahead.
We’re incredibly proud here at Flourish of Asma’s personal and professional development in recent years, by accessing support from our T2G programme to grow her organisation and networks plus progressing into our associate team as a coach and mentor- Asma is a force of nature.
