We’re inviting three panels of men from a range of industries and backgrounds to join us at this free event to discuss how, together, we can make this year’s International Women’s Day theme of “An Equal World is an Enabled World’ a reality.
Roop Sagar will be joining us on one of our ‘manels’. Here, we get to know a little more about him….
What is your role/organisation?
I am a co-founder, as well as a therapist and teacher, of the Earth Clinic. I am also a co-founder / Managing Director / Film Director & Producer / Cameraman / Editor of Union Street Media Arts.
How diverse is your current leadership team – and/or what initiatives are in place that you support?
We are a very diverse team – the 2 co-founders, myself and my wife, Natasha Anand Boojihawon are from a BAME background and our Business Director is a young BAME woman also.
What career advice would you give your younger self?
I would advise myself to look inwards and feel out what my purpose is according to my gifts. How I want to have an impact on the planet. How my skills would be useful to complete this. Listen and look carefully to the synchronistic opportunities which offer themselves before you. Be instinctive and go for the path that feels like the one you’re destined for. Then commit and be disciplined. Concentrate and focus on the outcomes of your study and have an idea about this impact at every stage as this will evolve as you evolve.
Have you any role models that have inspired you during your career to date?
My Great Grandfather was a healer, he made his own herbals medicines and had his own business overseas sales of these products, taking his remedies around the world to sell to help people who are unwell or suffering. My grandad helped his dad in this business.
My grandad went on to become a theologist, philosopher, wisdom keeper of the Sikh faith, the title of ‘Gyani’ (honorific Sikh title used by someone learned/ Scholar in the Sikh religion and who often leads the congregation) he gained at University. He became a community elder & leader. He would help everyone in his community, fight major battles/ cases to gain human & civil rights for Sikh minorities. He advocated using peaceful protest and politics and his intellect.
My father is gentle, kind elder of our family now. He looks after everyone selflessly to ensure our family’s lives are as best they can be. He has supported the family since he was young – working to provide for his parents and now supporting his children to do whatever they want. He helped us in any way to see our dreams/ desires manifest.
Join us and Roop for an evening of collaboration, debate and lots of fun! Grab your free ticket today.
